Kerala Groom Reaches Wrong Temple Via Google Maps, Misses Muhurtham But Ties The Knot Later
In a tale that blends tradition with tech trouble, a wedding in Kerala recently turned into a comedy of errors when a bride's relative sent a misplaced Google Maps pin which made the groom take an unexpected 70-kilometre detour—threatening to derail a meticulously timed ceremony.
The groom, who had set out from Thiruvananthapuram with his entourage for a wedding at Keezhur temple in Kannur, was following what they thought was the correct digital route, as per a report on Manorama.
However, thanks to a wrongly shared location pin—courtesy of a well-meaning but misinformed relative—the group was redirected to a different temple altogether. By the time the mistake was discovered, the wedding party was three hours behind schedule.
Despite the delay, the groom made it to the venue just in time to exchange vows at the designated muhurtham (auspicious hour), saving the big day. The bride, though anxious during the ordeal, was reportedly relieved and amused by the unexpected twist.
Previous Glitch In Google Maps
This lighthearted episode is a stark contrast to a far more serious Google Maps mishap that occurred last year, when a group of tourists from Hyderabad ended up driving into a submerged road near Kuruppanthara, Kottayam. Heavy rains had flooded the route, and the travelers—unaware of the conditions—followed the app's directions straight into the water. Fortunately, all four passengers were rescued by local police and residents. Their car, however, was completely submerged and later retrieved with assistance from authorities.
These two incidents, one comical and the other nearly catastrophic, serve as cautionary tales about overreliance on navigation apps. While Google Maps remains a trusted tool for millions, these stories from Kerala highlight the importance of local knowledge and double-checking critical directions—especially on big days or unfamiliar roads.
