Pune Collector Jitendra Dudi Urges Swift Pre-Monsoon Preparations, Emphasises Inter-Departmental Coordination

Pune District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Jitendra Dudi, has stressed the importance of completing all pre-monsoon works through meticulous planning and inter-departmental coordination to ensure public safety on Tuesday.

Addressing a review meeting with various departments, Dudi instructed that all works related to monsoon preparedness must be completed within the pre-monsoon period. He emphasised the need for seamless coordination among all concerned agencies to avoid lapses during emergencies. He also directed that arrangements be made to ensure citizens have access to all essential facilities and that no disruptions occur due to a lack of planning.

Dudi informed that embankment-related works must be finalised and their details shared with both the district administration and municipal corporations. He added that slums and encroachments in vulnerable areas must be cleared, and a detailed flood response plan should be put in place. Citizens, he said, should receive timely alerts regarding rising water levels, especially due to dam discharges. Structural inspections of critical constructions must be carried out before the onset of the monsoon.

He further instructed the Public Works Department to identify and share details of dangerous spots such as vulnerable villages, bridges, roads, and areas likely to face complete blockage. Citizens must also be informed about alternative routes during road closures. Dudi directed that all emergency machinery—like bulldozers, tankers, dewatering pumps, generators, floodlights, tree cutters, and RCC cutters—must be kept in working condition and readily available.

The Health Department, he said, must prepare to tackle possible emergency situations with full readiness at taluka hospitals, including availability of beds, medical officers, medicines, and blood banks. He also underlined the need to raise public awareness about preventive measures for monsoon-related diseases and ensure snakebite treatment kits are stocked.

Dudi instructed the Agriculture Department to ensure rural road access remains intact during emergencies, and asked the District Supply Office to maintain stockpiles of foodgrains. He emphasized that all departments must work together to respond swiftly to disruptions, especially in remote or flood-prone areas.

He also directed the preparation of a comprehensive disaster management plan from the district level down to the village level, with updates communicated to the public in simple language. Sub-divisional officers were asked to submit taluka-level plans and share the same with citizens.

According to Dudi, officials from all concerned departments—including Public Works, Agriculture, Health, Municipal Corporations, PMRDA, Mahadistribution, RTO, Forest, IMD, and others—either attended the meeting in person or participated online, and provided updates on ongoing pre-monsoon preparations.
