Amid the Pahalgam terror attack, there is a fear that India and Pakistan may get caught in a war. Amidst all this, Swedish company SAAB has announced the delivery of AT4 Anti-Armor Weapon System to the Indian Armed Forces. Saab India has said that it has successfully handed over the AT4 Anti-Armor System to the Indian security forces. In a post on the social media platform X, SAAB India has said that “We are proud to announce the successful delivery of our AT4 Anti-Armor weapon system to the Indian Armed Forces. AT4 has joined India’s arsenal as a reliable single-shot solution for short-range combat. India has purchased the AT4CS AST variant, which is used to destroy buildings, enemy bunkers and in urban combat.”

Apart from urban warfare, the Indian Army can also carry out single shot attacks on enemies hiding in bunkers in hilly areas with the AT4 Anti-Armor. Apart from this, it can be fired from a very small space. Many times the soldiers have very little space to fire the weapon or it can be fired even while hiding in buildings. India has bought it from the Swedish company Saab especially for anti-terrorism operations and at this time, when there is tension with Pakistan, AT4 Anti-Armor will increase the combat capability of the Indian Army.

Specialty of AT4 Anti-Armor system is that

soldiers can fire AT4 Anti-Armor by keeping it on their shoulders. It is a man-portable weapon, which weighs only 7.5 kg. It becomes disposable after a single shot. It is a recoilless weapon, which can be operated by a single soldier. Its length is just one meter and it can be used to attack the enemy accurately from a distance of 300 meters. Once fired, it is thrown away. It has a pre-loaded heat warhead, which is designed to penetrate tanks, armored vehicles, bunkers or walls. It is designed for the infantry. That is, a soldier can easily blow up a tank while hiding. It is very easy to use and can be prepared to fire in a few seconds. It is very effective against armored vehicles, fortified positions, and low-flying helicopters.

Apart from India, it is used by US, Australian, Ukrainian, German and French soldiers. Ukrainian soldiers have caused a lot of damage to Russian tanks and armored vehicles with it. It has been used extensively to blow up Russian tanks. Although India is its new customer, the Indian Army has been using the Carl-Gustaf shoulder-fired weapon system designed by Saab for a long time. It is produced in India by Bharat Dynamics. AT4 has all the features of Carl-Gustaf.
