Pune Viral: Redditor Alleges Uber Drivers Refuse To Turn On AC In Summer Heat, Cite 'Company Policy'

Pune is reeling under the intense summer heat, with temperatures crossing 40 degrees Celsius on most days in April. Amid this, a Redditor has alleged that Uber drivers are refusing to turn on the air-conditioner, citing "company policy."

The user wrote, "Took an Uber Go from NIBM to Balewadi, and the cab driver informed me that Uber Go's are no longer 100% AC, and this happened on the 18th of the past month. Earlier this month, when I visited Pune, another cab driver asked for extra to keep the AC on in the car (this was before the 18th btw)."

He added, "I know he’s waffling because there’s nothing about it online or in Uber’s policies, and Uber’s hell to talk to about any customer grievances (and they know it too). Is this a normal thing for cab drivers in Pune to do now? Have any of you experienced this?"

Meanwhile, netizens commented that this was their new "cost-cutting tactic."

A user wrote, "I think they all want us to spend money and finally make a decision to buy a car—the decision we usually defer due to the assumption of good cab services. I made it when the cabs demanded only cash and cancelled other modes of payment."

"They throw a tantrum even if you book a Business Premier cab. In the BLR airport, as soon as the cab entered the parking, the app showed the total fare, and the first thing that the driver did was switch off the AC. I disembarked after 5 minutes due to the unavailability of parking there. So Uber Go or anything—it’s just tactics," another user stated.

A third user suggested, "Book the car. Let the cab move close to your location. Call them. Ask them if they are coming and if the AC is on. If not, cancel the booking. After boarding, immediately ask to switch on the AC. If they refuse, get down immediately."
