After China, Turkey makes shocking statement on Pahalgam terror attack, confirms ‘full support’…
Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan after the recent terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has called for calm and urged both nations to pursue de-escalation. Speaking after a cabinet meeting in Ankara on Monday, Erdogan emphasized Turkey’s unwavering support for the people of Pakistan. “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Turkey came at a crucial time, given the sensitive developments unfolding in the region,” Erdogan said. “We discussed strengthening our defence ties, boosting trade, and expanding cooperation across various fields. Turkey stands firmly with the Pakistani people. In our region and beyond, we want to avoid the emergence of any new conflicts. We sincerely hope that Pakistan and India can ease the tensions before the situation worsens,” he added.
Erdogan’s comments also come in the wake of reports claiming that six Turkish C-130 Hercules aircraft, loaded with military equipment, arrived in Pakistan on Sunday. These claims were largely based on flight-tracking data published by open-source intelligence (OSINT) trackers, who tracked the aircraft flying over the Arabian Sea. However, his government also denied reports of Turkey dispatching aircraft carrying weapons to Pakistan amid escalating tensions with India. “The claim reported by certain media outlets that ‘Turkiye sent six aircraft full of weapons to Pakistan’ is not true,” the government’s Directorate of Communications wrote on X.
On April 22, a horrific terrorist attack at Baisaran meadow in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam claimed the lives of at least 26 people, most of whom were tourists. The incident marked the deadliest attack in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack targeting CRPF personnel.
Initially, The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the massacre. However, in a surprising turn, the group retracted its claim several days later, further deepening the mystery surrounding the attack.
In response, India unveiled a series of stringent diplomatic measures against Pakistan. These included halting the implementation of the Indus Waters Treaty, sealing the Attari-Wagah border crossing, and suspending the issuance of visas to Pakistani citizens. Reacting to India’s moves, Islamabad responded with countermeasures of its own, notably suspending the Simla Agreement.
