Two operatives of terror module injured in encounter

Two operatives of US-based gangster turned terrorist Jeevan Fauji were among three miscreants who were injured in separate encounters in the Amritsar rural and city police commissionerate area here on Monday.

They suffered gunshot injuries and were admitted in the hospital for treatment.

Love (22) and Vishal (23) of Jafarkot village in Ajnala were injured during an encounter with CIA staff of Amritsar rural police in Ramdass area while Shivam Singh alias Babblu (24) of Uttarakhand was injured in an encounter at Verka bypass area.

Sharing operational details, SSP Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh said the CIA staff received a tip about movements of Jeevan Fauji’s operatives in the Ramdass area for carrying out some criminal activity. He said immediately CIA teams, led by inspector Manmeetpal Singh, were dispatched immediately. He said the police teams chased them in their vehicles. During the chase, when the police surrounded them, the duo hid behind trees and fired at the police team. Both sides exchanged fire, during which the two suspects were injured. The cops recovered two pistols and two mobile phones from their possession while the scooter was also impounded for further probe. Maninder Singh said both the accused did not have any previous criminal record against them.

The police have been probing their role in the recent incidents — the hand grenade blasts on police establishments wherein Jeevan Fauji had claimed responsibility. They were also investigating the recent extortion calls made by him to the local residents.

A notorious criminal Shivam Singh alias Babblu (24), who was arrested by the Amritsar city police commissionerate a week ago, has been injured in a police encounter in Verka bypass area. He was taken to the spot for recovery of a weapon.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said after the recovery of a .32 bore pistol, the police team was busy in documentation when the accused requested to use the washroom. The cops took him to a secluded place nearby, and he tried to snatch the senior constable’s service pistol, which led to a scuffle. ASI Kewal Krishan fired at him and the Shivam suffered a bullet injury in the leg.

He had four cases, including two of attempt to murder against him, besides that of the Arms act in Indore (MP). He had planned two murders of rival gangsters and wanted to create his supremacy in the criminal gangs.

Apart from Shivam, the police had earlier arrested Navdeep Singh alias Nav (25), a resident of Gopal Nagar located on Majitha Road, Ujjwal Hans (24) of PWD Complex on Batala Road and Jasandeep Singh alias Jassa (21) of village Dhoopsari located on Verka Bypass on April 21. The police had seized five pistols from their possession at that time.
