RCB makes history, became first ever team in IPL to…..
New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore secured a thrilling win over Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2025 clash on Sunday. After losing Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar in quick succession, RCB found themselves under pressure. However, Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya combined for a vital 119-run partnership for the fourth wicket, guiding RCB to a successful chase of 163 runs. With this victory, RCB made history by securing their 6th consecutive away win in the 18th edition of the IPL, becoming the first team to achieve such a feat.
RCB have faced some challenges at home this season, managing only one win out of four games, but their performances on the road have been nothing short of spectacular. The 6-wicket win over Delhi Capitals marked their 6th consecutive away victory, propelling them to the top of the points table.
In the match, Krunal Pandya’s unbeaten 73 guided RCB to a six-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals, allowing them to surpass Gujarat Titans and move to the top of the points table.
Chasing a target of 163, Royal Challengers Bengaluru found themselves struggling at 26-3. However, Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya then joined forces, forging a crucial fourth-wicket partnership of 119 runs to steer RCB to victory.
Tim David played a match-winning knock, scoring 19* off just five deliveries, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru sealed the victory with nine balls to spare at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla ground.
“He (Pandya) can make that impact and we were just waiting for him to come into this tournament with the bat as well,” Kohli said, praising the player of the match, Pandya, who also impressed with the ball, taking 1-28 with his left-arm spin.
“And today was his day completely, and he was absolutely brilliant,” Kohli added, reflecting on Pandya’s exceptional performance.
Kohli compiled a measured 51, anchoring the chase, while Pandya played a blistering knock, striking five fours and four sixes, taking the game away from Delhi.
It was Bengaluru’s sixth successive away win, as they, along with Kohli, continue their quest for their first IPL title since the league’s inception in 2008.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and fellow pace bowler Josh Hazlewood combined to take five wickets, restricting Delhi to 162/8.
In the chase, Delhi skipper Axar Patel opened the bowling with his left-arm spin and made an immediate impact, removing England’s IPL debutant Jacob Bethell for 12 and Devdutt Padikkal for a duck just two balls later.
Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar was run out for six, but Kohli and Pandya put Delhi under pressure with occasional boundaries and quick running between the wickets.
Once set, Pandya unleashed his power, reaching his fifty off 38 balls with a four off Axar Patel.
Kohli completed his sixth half-century of the season, edging past Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav (427) to become the leading run-scorer with 443.
He was eventually dismissed by Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera, but by then, Pandya and Australian international Tim David had already taken Bengaluru across the line to secure the victory.
