Maruti's First Electric Car Delayed? e Vitara Gears Up For Festive Launch

e Vitara is the first electric Maruti Suzuki and it has been delayed to a festive season launch around September with Chairman R C Bhargava saying that deliveries will start from September. The e Vitara was rumoured to be launched around this time while being first shown at the Auto Expo. The reason for the delay is unknown while the car-maker has promised the largest charging network to go along with the car when launched.

While being made at its Gujarat plant, the e Vitara is a crucial product for Maruti but would also be its most expensive SUV being expected to be priced above the hybrid Grand Vitara. The e Vitara will come with two battery packs 49kWh and 61kWh battery while the features list and the interiors too are unlike any other Maruti with more features as seen with the car being revealed at the Auto Expo.

While the reason for the delay is unclear, we hope the car is launched sooner rather than later while giving buyers more options in the EV space. The e Vitara is the start as more evs would be coming in later in the coming years while the carmaker would also have a healthy ICE and hybrid portfolio with the 7 seater version of the Grand Vitara also coming this year based on the 5-seater version.

The e Vitara would be sold via the Nexa sales outlets and along with domestic sales, the car's production would also be earmarked for exports to other markets globally.
