He accomplished this feat in 2714 balls, surpassing KL Rahul’s previous record of 2820 balls. Former West Indies captain and legendary batter Chris Gayle holds the record for being the fastest to reach 4000 runs in the IPL, achieving the milestone in just 2653 balls. Close behind him is former RCB star AB de Villiers, who took 2658 balls to reach the same landmark.
Fastest to score 4000 runs in IPL (by balls)
Chris Gayle, who represented KKR, RCB, and PBKS during his IPL career, remains the fastest to reach 4000 runs, achieving the feat in just 2653 balls. Former South African star AB de Villiers, who played for DC and RCB, is next on the list, taking 2658 balls to reach the milestone. Suryakumar Yadav, who has featured for MI and KKR, follows closely, completing 4000 IPL runs in 2714 balls.
Suryakumar is the 17th cricketer overall to score 4000 runs in IPL history. Among active players, he becomes only the eighth to surpass this elite mark in the world’s richest franchise league.
The 34-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai, currently in sensational form this season, needed just 33 runs in MI’s match against LSG to reach the landmark. He achieved it by hitting a boundary on the second ball of the 13th over bowled by Avesh Khan.

Suryakumar Yadav Reaches 150 Sixes Milestone in IPL
During his stay at the crease in the ongoing match, Suryakumar Yadav has already smashed four fours and two sixes. Notably, his first six of the game also marked a personal milestone — his 150th six in the IPL, further cementing his status among the league’s most explosive batters.
Surya Eyes Mumbai Indians’ Batting Records
If Suryakumar manages to score at least 54 runs in the current match, he will surpass Kieron Pollard’s tally of 3412 runs to become the second-highest run-getter for Mumbai Indians in IPL history. The top spot remains with Rohit Sharma, who has amassed 5698 runs in 221 matches, featuring two centuries and 37 half-centuries.
In the IPL, apart from his stint with Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar Yadav has also represented Kolkata Knight Riders, showcasing his consistency across two major franchises.
