Drains to be cleaned & repaired in Yamunanagar, Jagadhri before monsoon

All drains (nullahs) will be cleaned and repaired in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri falling under the area of Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) before the arrival of monsoon.

These instructions were issued by Mayor Suman Bahamani to officials of the MCYJ. The Mayor said 70-80 employees would clean all big drains before the arrival of monsoon.

She further said the teams of four workers were being formed in each ward for cleaning the small drains. The Mayor conducted a surprise inspection of the blocked drain along the Jagadhri-Paonta Sahib National Highway at Ashok Vihar Colony of Jagadhri, on Thursday.

She reached the Ashok Vihar Colony along with Municipal Councillor Bhanu Pratap.

On the arrival of the Mayor, area residents Ravinder Kumar, Som Prakash Nambardar, Tilak Raj, Shiv Kumar and other persons reached the spot.They informed the Mayor about the problem of the drain.

After listening to their problem, the Mayor called Executive Engineer Sukhwinder Singh, Junior Engineer Gagan Sandhu, Chief Sanitary Inspector Harjeet Singh and other officials of the MCYJ on the spot.

Executive Engineer Sukhwinder Singh told the Mayor that the drain had to pass under the National Highway.He told her that a letter had been written to the officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for issuance of no-objection certificate (NOC) for letting the drain cross under the highway.He added that this work would be done as soon as they received the permission from the NHAI.

“I have given instructions to the officials of the MCYJ to repair and clean all drains before the arrival of monsoon in this region,” said Bahamani.

The Mayor further instructed the officials to check all drains in their area and get these repaired and cleaned immediately.

“It is our endeavour that there should not be waterlogging in any area falling under MCYJ. For this, I am working with municipal councillors and officials of the MCYJ,” said Bahamani.

She said that soon a tender would be floated by the authorities of the MCYJ for cleaning the big drains.

“Separate teams shall be formed to clean big and small drains in twin cities Yamunanagar and Jagadhri,” said Mayor Suman Bahamani.
