Gas leak in Barnala factory kills 1 worker, 4 fall unconscious
One worker of IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited factory, situated at Fatehgarh Chhanna village (near Barnala), died and four fell unconscious after hydrogen sulphide gas leaked from number three unit of the factory this morning.
The workers were taken to a private hospital at Barnala where one of them died during treatment.
After receiving information about the leakage of the gas in the factory, the police authorities and senior officials of the IOL factory reached the spot.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Barnala, Satvir Singh, said Anmol Chimpa, a resident of Phulka village (Haryana), had died in the mishap, while three workers of the factory, namely Yugam Khanna, a resident of Hisar; Vikas Sharma, a resident of Maujgarh Khudian in Fazilka district, and Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Chhanna (Barnala), were under treatment at a private hospital in Barnala. He said the condition of all three patients was said to be stable and no one had been referred to any higher health institution.
The DSP said the cause behind the leakage could not be ascertained immediately. He added that no case had been registered in this regard so far. However, investigation into the case was going on.
