Sangrur police seize 2,240 litres of stolen ethanol
A team of the Sangrur district police and the Special Operations Group (Excise) seized 2,240 litres of stolen ethanol and arrested two persons in this regard.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said about 10,000 bottles of illicit liquor could be manufacturedwith the recovered ethanol. He said had the consignment entered the market, its use could have been led to a major tragedy.
Seizure made over two days, says FM Cheema
Cheema, who was accompanied by Sangrur SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal, said the recovery was made over two days.
On a secret information on April 25, a team of the excise and police officers seized 200 litres of ethanol from a vehicle on the Sangrur-Dirba highway near Dhandoli Khurd village and arrested Shah Mohammad, a resident of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh.
The Finance Minister said during the investigation of the cas, the Sangrurpolice also came to know about an illegal storage facility on the Kularan-Gaggarpur road near Sangrur on April 26.
During a raid, the police recovered 2,040 litres of ethanol, kept in 11 plastic drums, from a field of Gaggarpur village and later arrested Arman, a resident of Purnia in Bihar.
Finance Minister cheema said the district police were also trying to unearth the source of the seized ethanol to bring culprits to the book.
