Keeping your gut and liver happy in turn keeps you happy. Maintaining a healthy gut and liver is crucial for overall well-being. A healthy gut microbiome supports immune function, produces essential vitamins, and regulates inflammation, while a healthy liver detoxifies the body, metabolises nutrients, and regulates hormones.

When both the gut and liver are in sync, it helps boost energy, enhance digestion and support mental health as well. A healthy gut could also reduce the risk of chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes, and liver disease, promoting overall health and resilience.

Gastroenterologist Dr Saurabh Sethi, a Harvard and Stanford-trained expert based in California, through Instagram, shared four quick snacks that he eats throughout the day to maintain gut and liver health.

According to Sethi, approximately two million people worldwide suffer from fatty liver disease and a poor diet is one of the biggest reasons for it.

Four quick and healthy snacks for gut and liver health

1. Dates: These are antioxidant powerhouse. He says he usually pairs them with walnuts which are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids. Dates also contain compounds that may stimulate bile production, aiding in fat digestion and metabolism, benefitting liver function.

2. Mixed nuts: Mixed nuts including almonds, cashews, hazelnuts and walnuts, rich in Vitamin E are vital for liver health. Dark chocolate also benefits the liver. Therefore, combining nuts with dark chocolate does the trick and makes a delicious and sweet treat.

3. Honey: Honey could be paired with fruits and spices. Apples are a super fruit for both the gut and liver especially for kids this would be a very good and preferable snack.

4. Greek yoghurt: Mixed up with berries these offer a combination of probiotics and antioxidants for gut and liver health.
