Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi reflects on India's freedom struggle and the legacy of great leaders

In the latest Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the nation on a journey back to 1917, a pivotal year in India's fight for independence. He highlighted the intense struggle faced by Indian farmers, especially in Bihar, under British rule, where they were forced to cultivate indigo, which ruined their lands. This hardship led Mahatma Gandhi to launch the historic Champaran Satyagraha, which became a turning point in the freedom movement. PM Modi also remembered Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Bihar's great son, who played a significant role in the movement and later became India's first President.Modi emphasized that April holds special significance in the history of India’s freedom struggle. On April 6, Gandhi’s Dandi March concluded, which deeply impacted the British colonial government. He also reflected on the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Punjab, which marked a painful chapter in the fight for freedom. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the sacrifices of leaders like Babu Veer Kunwar Singh, a prominent figure in the 1857 Revolt, and called upon citizens to draw inspiration from such great warriors. Looking forward, Modi promised that next month's Mann Ki Baat will continue to celebrate the nation's diversity and the selfless efforts of individuals driving societal change.
