Punjab Politics: BJP General Secretary Jagmohan Singh Raju Resigns, Alleges Organisational Irregularities And Leadership Issues
Chandigarh: Indicating beginning of fissures within Punjab BJP, the party state general secretary, Jagmohan Singh Raju, has submitted his resignation levelling grave allegations against some party leaders.
In his four-page resignation letter sent to the party top national and state leadership, Raju has cited serious organisational irregularities and resentment with Amritsar district president Harvinder Singh Sandhu and also the party general secretary, organisation, Manthri Srinivasulu.
Raju, a former IAS officer and BJP’s 2022 assembly candidate from Amritsar East seat, alleged that the leaders overstepped their authority and violated party norms and claimed that the same was causing discontent among the party workers and section of leaders.
It may be recalled that Raju had also earlier opposed Sandhu during municipal corporation election, last year, over the distribution of party tickets last year because of which, he claimed, the saffron party fared poorly and could win only eight out of total 85 seats in Amritsar. He had also openly opposed the appointment of block presidents in Amritsar at the behest of Sandhu.
According to media reports, Raju has pointedly said that the discontent within the party is growing against the working style of the said leaders even though the workers are not openly coming out to speak up.
Meanwhile, the resignation by Raju is being seen as a significant development in the party in Punjab with the state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar currently keeping away from the party activities and Srinivasulu, reportedly calling the shots in the state organisation at a time when the party is gearing up for the internal organisational elections.
