Speaking to reporters after visiting the family of tourist guide Syed Adil Hussain Shah in Hapatnad, Karra said that nobody, especially the people of J&K, supports war.
“Following the incident (Pahalgam terror attack), diplomatic relations between the two countries have become tense. We are not in favour of war; nobody would support war, especially the people of J&K, because in every war so far, the major casualties have been borne by the people of J&K,” he said.
Karra added that political differences aside, “I request both countries, as a Kashmiri, to keep their cool. We are not in favour of war; both countries should sit together and find a way out.”
The JKPCC president said that wars have severely affected the economies of both countries and increased poverty.
“It should not happen that we are pushed 50 years back, because the effects of war are long-lasting,” he warned.
Strongly condemning the terror attack, Karra said that tourist guide Syed Adil Hussain has restored the dignity of Kashmiris and cleared the allegations levelled against them.
“His sacrifice is akin to that of Maqbool Sherwani, who defended the country’s integrity in 1948,” he said.
Adil, Karra said, has sacrificed his life for the integrity of the nation and for religious harmony.
“He has wiped away the stain that was being affixed to us under a well-thought-out conspiracy.”
He stressed that just as Sherwani’s name lives on, Adil’s name will also be remembered till the end of time.
“The tourists who lost their loved ones, despite their grief, appreciated the people of Kashmir and those who helped them,” he added.
“One of the women said that although she lost her father, Kashmir has given her two brothers. This has reinforced our commitment to the guests who visit us.”
Meanwhile, AICC general secretary G.A. Mir, while terming the Pahalgam terror attack “tragic,” said that Kashmir had never before witnessed such an attack targeting tourists or tourist destinations.
“It is an attack on humanity; it is an attack on the livelihood of the people. That is why everyone came out in protest, as they could not bear it,” he said.
Mir said that while J&K is a Union Territory, the Home Minister is supervising the security measures. “Some measures were taken earlier too, but how successful they were, the country knows,” he said.
Following the incident, he added, the Government has taken some “face-saving” measures. “But how far they will succeed in implementing them, only time will tell.”
He urged people to strengthen brotherhood and unity to defeat the designs of terrorists.
