Historic first for women as Shimla hosts kabaddi event
Himachal Pradesh is all set to host the 46th All-India Electricity Sports Control Board Kabaddi Tournament from April 27 to April 29. The event, organised by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL), will take place at the playground in Chamyana Panchayat, Bhattakufar, Shimla.
This national-level kabaddi tournament will see participation from 14 men’s teams and four women’s teams representing companies involved in power generation, transmission and distribution across the country.
Among the prominent teams competing in the men’s category are Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam, Tata Power Corporation Limited, Madhya Pradesh Power Company and teams from Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, BBMB and the host team from HPSEBL. A special highlight this year is the inclusion of women’s teams, with four confirmed teams participating for the first time, marking a new milestone for the tournament.
Sharing the details, Anurag Parashar, Press Secretary of the HPSEB Sports Organisation, said the tournament will be inaugurated by Sandeep Kumar, Managing Director of HPSEBL. The closing ceremony on April 29 will be graced by the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Anirudh Singh, who will felicitate the winning teams.
Parashar further said officials from the HPSEB Sports Organisation visited the Bhattakufar ground on Saturday to review the preparations. Players from various states also engaged in practice sessions to fine-tune their skills ahead of the competition. He added that the venue has been beautifully decorated and HPSEBL has planned cultural programmes showcasing Himachal Pradesh’s rich heritage to follow the matches. Rehearsals for these cultural performances were conducted today by board employees.
