Pakistan’s hilarious response after India suspends Indus Water Treaty, Islamabad shuts down…
India suspended the Indus Water Treaty following the heinous Pahalgam terror attack, and Pakistan has responded by a clownish move which would make you laugh your guts out. According to reports, Islamabad has halted the Cholistan Canal project in response to India’s suspension of the critical Indus Water Treaty.
However, the funny thing is that Cholistan Canal project is practically rendered useless if India halts the supply of water to the canal. As per reports, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif met PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari after India’s move to suspend the treaty, and both agreed to halt the controversial canal project.
Sharif and Zardari reached an agreement that the project will remain on ice till a consensus is reached in the Council of Common Interests– a high-level inter-provincial body to deal with disputes between provinces of Pakistan,
The Cholistan Canal project was inaugurated in February this year by Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The project aims to boost irrigation in Pakistan’s arid Punjab province, but its opening stirred an uproar in the Sindh province as several political parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which is part of the ruling coalition with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N in Islamabad, staged protests.
Notably, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari presented a united stand after India announced the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty in the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack.
“In the meeting between PPP and PML-N, we have decided that no more canals will be built until a decision is taken by mutual consent. There will be no further progress on the canals without a consensus among the provinces,” Sharif told reporters at a joint presser with Bilawal.
