'Want To Be Known As Human Being': West Bengal Teacher Renounces Islam After Pahalgam Attack

North 24 Parganas: The Pahalgam terrorist attack, which killed 26 people has distributed the nation. Anguished by the attack, Sabir Hussain, a science teacher from Baduria in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal has decided to renounce his religion in vehement protest against the terrorist attack.

Hussain will be approaching the court to relinquish his religious identity, seeking a life free of religious affiliation. “I mean no disrespect to any religion—this is a personal choice. I’ve witnessed how religion is repeatedly used as a tool for violence, especially in Kashmir. I can no longer accept this. I simply want to be known as a human being, not by any religious label. That’s why I intend to make a formal application to the court," he said speaking to News 18.

Although he is yet to complete the legal formalities, Sabir expressed his intention to officially declare himself 'irreligious' in the near future.

He further said, “Why should anyone be killed because of their religion? That’s what deeply upsets me."

Would Not Impose Beliefs On Family

Hussain initially shared his decision on social media and has since reaffirmed his plan to legally disassociate from Islam. However, he clarified that he would not impose his beliefs on his family and said that his wife and children are free to follow whatever path they choose.

He also feels that everything seems to revolve around religion these days and that’s not the world he wants to live in.
