Years later, Prayagraj rose to prominence, not only claiming the top position but also consistently producing a significant number of successful UPSC candidates. Going by the media reports, Pradip Shukla, a research student of Allahabad University, secured the top rank in UPSC CSE in 1982. Moreover, his friend AK Bishnoi secured the second position. Both were researchers in Physics and lived in the Amarnath Jha hostel on the university campus. According to media reports, the duo opted for mathematics and physics as their chosen subjects for the UPSC mains exam.
The legacy of talent from Allahabad University continued to thrive in civil services exams. Bhupendra Singh, a graduate and post-graduate of the university, secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 2 in the 1984 UPSC exam. Going by the media reports, in 2009, Iva Sahay, daughter of the former chairman of the Department of Anthropology, achieved AIR 3. Similarly, in 2017, Saumya Pandey and Abhilash Mishra earned AIRs 4 and 5, further solidifying the university’s reputation.
Dubey, who had faced the exam multiple times earlier, said that one needs self-confidence to handle failure during preparations. On Shakti Dubey securing the first rank, her mother, Prema Dubey, was quoted as saying to news agency ANI, “I am very happy, but she has been able to achieve this rank because of the blessings of Mahadev. I had no role to play. She studied day and night. She is in Delhi and will come home tomorrow.”
While speaking to news agency ANI, her father, Devendra Kumar Dubey, expressed happiness and said, “I am very happy. The only role I played in her studies was to make available anything and everything she needed. The rest was her hard work and the blessings of God. We are very happy with the results. I am in the Police Department, so I would mostly stay out of home. My wife played a major role in her success.”
