This film is a suspense thriller that has two main veteran actors. The other Hindi films – Emran Hashmi starrer Ground Zero and Patralekhaa-Pratik Gandhi’s biopic Phule were also released this week.
While Ground Zero garnered mixed reviews, Phule has mustered appreciation for the actors stellar performance. Meanwhile, this South Indian Malayalam movie has received mixed response with acclaim credited to the performance of the lead actor. The name of the movie is Thundarum.
Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thundarum features Mohanlal, Arjun Ashokan and Shobana in lead roles. The movie is a suspense thriller that revolves around a humble taxi driver Shanmughan . In the quiet hill town of Ranni, humble taxi driver Shanmughan treasures one thing above all – his aging Ambassador car. When fate puts him to the test, he must prove just how far he’ll go for what he holds dear.
Mohanlal returned to content-oriented cinema after the big screen spectacular L2: Empuraan. Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan, released on 27 March 2025, has achieved a net collection of 106.58 crores in India. While worldwide it has reached 266.62 crores. Due to this, it has been included in the list of the highest grossing films of the year in Malayalam cinema.

The movie has received an IMDb rating of 8.7 on scale of 10 with 10 being the highest. Thundarum has minted around Rs 5.25 crore net in India on its first day for all languages, as per Sacnilk report. It’s worldwide collection was at Rs 11 crores.
