2 ATM Theft Suspects, 4 Police Officers Injured In Encounter In Kalaburagi

A dramatic car chase in the city late last night left six individuals injured, including four police personnel and two suspects believed to be involved in a recent ATM theft case. The injured have been admitted to Trauma Centre at Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.

The police had been on alert following an ATM robbery reported two weeks ago along the Ring Road. Investigators had gathered leads indicating the possible involvement of a white Hyundai i20 bearing a Delhi registration number.

'Police Chased Suspect'

According to Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Dr Sharanappa SD, officers on night patrol identified the suspected vehicle and initiated a pursuit.

Commissioner of Police Dr Sharanappa SD told ANI, "Yesterday, during night patrolling, we learned that the exact vehicle was spotted and had a Delhi number plate. Police inspector Santosh and his PSI Baswaraj and their team chase the vehicle in which one sub-inspector and three constables were injured. In self-defence, the Police inspector and PSI opened fire at the accused, in which two of the accused were injured in the leg."

During the chase, a sub-inspector and three constables sustained injuries. In an effort to stop the suspects, Inspector Santosh and PSI Baswaraj reportedly fired at the car, injuring two of the accused in the legs.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the two injured suspects hail from Haryana and may be part of an interstate criminal network. Authorities have confirmed that four individuals were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. A detailed investigation is currently underway.
