IPL 2025: MI Eye Playoffs With 5 Matches Left – Here's What They Need

After a disappointing start to IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians - led by Hardik Pandya - have found their rhythm and are back in the race for the playoffs.

Once stuck at the bottom of the table, MI has now won consecutive matches and climbed to the fourth spot with 10 points from 9 games. Their current net run rate stands at a healthy +0.673.

What MI Needs to Qualify

To secure a place in the playoffs, Mumbai will likely need at least 16 points, a mark that has traditionally ensured playoffs qualification in the 10-team format. With 5 league games remaining, they must win a minimum of 3 more matches to reach that target.

While 14 points have been enough for qualification in some past seasons, that route is uncertain and depends heavily on other results and a strong net run rate.

To avoid those complications, Mumbai will aim to keep their winning streak alive and book a spot in the top four on their own terms.

Rohit Sharma's blazing knock powers MI to fourth straight win

In their most recent IPL match on Wednesday, Mumbai Indians extended their winning streak in IPL 2025 with a 7-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 41, played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

After winning the toss, MI skipper Hardik Pandya opted to bowl first. Hyderabad, struggling early on, managed 143/8 in their 20 overs, with Heinrich Klaasen standing tall with a fighting 71.

In reply, Mumbai made light work of the chase. Led by a brilliant 70 off 46 balls from Rohit Sharma, and supported by an unbeaten 40 from Suryakumar Yadav, MI cruised to 144/3 in just 16 overs.

This win marks Mumbai's fourth consecutive triumph, keeping their playoff hopes very much alive. MI's next game in IPL 2025 will be against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday (April 27).
