Rahul Gandhi visits Pahalgam attack victims, calls for national unity

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday expressed solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam attack after meeting one of those injured, and reiterated that the Opposition supported the government’s response to the attack.

He also called for unity against attempts to divide the country in the wake of the attack.

After meeting the injured, he was debriefed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He then told reporters that he had come to understand the ground situation and extended support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The entire people of Jammu and Kashmir have condemned this terrible act,” he said.

“I want everyone to know that the whole nation is standing together as one during this difficult time.”

Gandhi said that he met one of the injured victims, but was unable to meet more families, as many had already returned to their homes.

“I came here to meet those affected and to show that we are with them,” he said. “I assure everyone who has lost their loved ones that they are not alone.”

He also said that a joint meeting was held recently between the government and the Opposition, in which all parties unequivocally condemned the attack and pledged support for any necessary action by the government.

“The intent behind this heinous act is to divide society, to turn brother against brother,” he declared. “It is now more important than ever that every Indian stands united to defeat this malicious attempt.”

Rahul Gandhi also expressed concern over reports of Kashmiri citizens being targeted in other parts of the country, following the attack.

“It’s deeply saddening to see our Kashmiri brothers and sisters facing hostility elsewhere,’’ he said. “Such actions only serve the terrorists’ agenda.” He urged the public to stand together in the face of hate.

The Congress leader concluded by calling for a united front to combat terrorism and uphold the nation’s integrity.
