Is China building a military to destroy US? Beijing slams US over hypersonic hysteria

Reacting to the claims of Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who alleged that China is enhancing its military capabilities with the intention of outdoing the US and that China's hypersonic missiles can destroy all US aircraft carriers in 20 minutes, Beijing suggested that the US may be suffering from "persecution complex."

Hegseth had also claimed that in every war game played by the Pentagon, the US loses to China. According to him, China is building an army specifically designed to destroy the US.

A Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson said that some in the US always view the Chinese military through tainted lenses and hype up the "Chinese military threat."

According to the spokesperson, such remarks against China by the US are restricting the interactions between the militaries of China and the US.

Global Times reported that the spokesperson also sought to clarify the remarks by Admiral Samuel Paparo, the head of US Indo-Pacific Command, who had told the US Senate Armed Services Committee that "China is outproducing the United States in air, missile, maritime, and space capability and accelerating these."

“China's unprecedented aggression and military modernisation poses a series threat to the homeland, our allies, and our partners,” Admiral Paparo had said.

The spokesperson said China has “a clear understanding of our own development, and we hope the US side does not suffer from 'persecution complex' or use others as an excuse.”
