Caught On Camera: Traffic Cop Ignores Helmetless Wrong-Side Rider On Pune-Mumbai Highway
Punekars have gained notoriety for frequent traffic violations. Many seem to have no fear of the traffic police anymore.
Recently, an X (formerly Twitter) user shared a picture on the microblogging site showing a helmetless biker riding on the wrong side of the Pune-Mumbai Highway. Shockingly, a traffic policeman was within touching distance of the biker. However, the rider was neither fined nor warned for violating traffic rules.
Sharing the picture, the user wrote, "Clicked this today: A biker drove on the wrong side of the National Highway, right in front of a traffic policeman. No stop. No warning. Just silence. The biker didn’t fear the law. The cop didn’t enforce it. And when a 65-year-old loses his life on such roads, who’s really the criminal? Can @CPPuneCity answer this? Shame on @PuneCityTraffic @PuneCityPolice."
Meanwhile, users commented that this was a "common sight" across the city.
"I am waiting for the day when the traffic department only works from the office. Anyway, they are absent at 80% or more of major signals. And at one signal, you’ll see them in huge numbers for absolutely no reason," a user shared.
Another user wrote sarcastically, "Pune police is so pathetic that they can’t extort money even from traffic rule violators. We need better greed-driven people for low-level policing jobs. Don’t implement the law, but at least don’t let an opportunity to fleece erring citizens go by. What a waste!!"
"Quite a common sight at most signals. Some even have the audacity to request the cops if they can go on the wrong side," a third user commented.
A fourth user said, "He is probably busy checking PUC certificates. More money to make on that than enforcing the law on wrong-side driving or signal jumping!"
