Pakistan has officially shut its airspace for Indian carriers. This move is expected to impact international flight fares operated by Indian airlines, which could see a significant increase. Additionally, flight durations might become longer compared to regular days. If you are planning to travel abroad in the coming days, it is advisable to consider the current situation while planning your trip. According to a  report, international flights operating to and from Delhi and other northern Indian cities are likely to be affected.

Air India and IndiGo flights affected

According to reports, both Air India and IndiGo confirmed that some of their international flights have been impacted due to the closure of Pakistan’s airspace. Air India, which is owned by the Tata Group, stated that its flights connecting North America, the UK, Europe, and the Middle East may now be operating through extended alternative routes. Apart from Air India and IndiGo, other Indian airlines such as Air India Express and SpiceJet also operate international flights and may face similar issues.

Flights to be rerouted over the Arabian Sea

Senior airline officials and pilots stated that these flights would now have to take longer alternative routes over the Arabian Sea. As tensions between India and Pakistan escalated following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Pakistan on Thursday announced a ban on Indian airlines from using its airspace. In a post on social media platform X, Air India mentioned that due to the airspace ban imposed on all Indian airlines, it is expected that several flights to and from North America, the UK, Europe, and the Middle East will now operate on extended alternative routes.

Airlines express regret over inconvenience

Air India issued a statement expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers due to this unexpected closure of airspace, adding that the situation is beyond their control. The airline reiterated that the safety of its passengers and crew remains its top priority. Meanwhile, IndiGo also stated that the sudden announcement by Pakistan has affected some of its international flights. In a post on X, IndiGo said it understands the inconvenience caused and assured that its teams are working hard to help passengers reach their destinations as quickly as possible.
