Danish Kaneria Hits Out At Pakistan's Deputy PM For Defending Pahalgam Terrorists As 'Freedom Fighters'
Danish Kaneria, the former Pakistan cricketer has now lashed out at Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for referring to the Pahalgam attackers as ‘freedom fighters’. This comes a day after Kaneria criticized Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his silence on the deadly terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The attack on April 22 at Bairsaran, a popular tourist spot in Pahalgam, resulted in 26 deaths, making it the deadliest terror assault in the Kashmir Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack.
Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Dar had said, "Ye toh hamein shukar guzar hona chahiye, wo freedom fighters bhi ho sakte hain... hamein nahi pta.. we don't know... hamne honesty ke saath statement diya tha lekin mein samajhta hu unhone (India) apne failure ko jo internal hai... ek baar phir indirectly Pakistan ko jo hai hawala karne ki koshish ki..." (We should be thankful; they [the terrorists] could also be freedom fighters. We don't know. We made the statement honestly. However, I believe India is again trying to blame Pakistan for its internal failures indirectly.)
Taking to his official social media handle of X, Danish Kaneria lambasted Dar’s comments labeling it as both disgraceful and an admission of state-sponsored terrorism.
“When the Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan calls terrorists “freedom fighters,” it’s not just a disgrace — it’s an open admission of state-sponsored terrorism,” Kaneria said.
In another X post earlier, Kaneria expressed pride in his Hindu identity, stating that despite receiving love from the people of Pakistan, the country's rulers treated him no differently than other Hindus, highlighting the discrimination faced by the community since Partition.
“I am a Hindu — a proud one. As a Hindu, I served and played for the nation where I was born, because no matter where Hindus live in the world, they remain loyal and devoted to their country. The people of Pakistan gave me love, but its rulers treated me no differently than they have treated my Hindu brothers and sisters since Partition.”
