After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, many big and tough steps have been taken by the Government of India against Pakistan. It also talked about suspending the visas of Pakistani citizens. However, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday issued a clarification on the decision to suspend all existing valid visas issued by India to the citizens of Pakistan. The ministry said that this decision will not apply to the Long Term Visa (LTV) issued to Hindu Pakistani citizens.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement, “In reference to the decision of the Government of India to suspend visa services for the citizens of Pakistan on 24 April 2025, it is clarified that this decision will not apply to the LTV visas already issued to Hindu Pakistani citizens. These visas will remain valid.”

According to the decision of the Ministry of External Affairs, all existing valid visas which were issued by India to Pakistani citizens will be deemed to be cancelled from 27 April 2025. Medical visas will be valid only till 29 April 2025. Pakistani citizens currently present in India will have to leave India before the visa expires. Long Term Visa (LTV) of Hindu Pakistani citizens will not be affected.

Advisory for Indian citizens

Indian citizens have been advised to avoid traveling to Pakistan. Indian citizens who are currently in Pakistan have been instructed to return to India as soon as possible.

This tough decision has been taken after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, in which 26 innocent tourists were killed. The responsibility for this attack has been taken by The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be a proxy organization of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

After this, India has taken action and taken many more tough steps. Pakistani military officials were expelled. The Indus River Water Treaty was suspended. Attari-Wagah check post was closed with immediate effect.
