Karnataka BJP IT Cell Booked Over Post Linking Rahul Gandhi's US Visit & Pahalgam Attack

The Bengaluru City Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Karnataka unit of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) IT and Social Media cell in connection with a social media post that allegedly sought to malign Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the aftermath of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

The FIR, lodged at the High Grounds police station, accused members of the BJP’s digital wing of spreading misleading content. The controversial post alleged a pattern of unrest in India whenever Rahul Gandhi travels abroad. The post in question included hashtags such as #PahalgamTerroristAttack and #Hindus, drawing strong backlash from the Congress party, as per a report on India Today.

Based on the complaint, legal proceedings have been initiated under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including sections related to promoting enmity and inciting public disorder through misinformation.

Reacting to the development, Karnataka Congress spokesperson and legal department chairperson, CM Dhananjaya, criticised the BJP, accusing it of attempting to distract the public and deflect attention from its alleged shortcomings in national security, reported The Mint.

Authorities have confirmed that notices will soon be sent to the individuals involved, summoning them for questioning as part of the investigation.

He had curtailed his ongoing U.S. trip to attend a key Congress Working Committee meeting and was also present at a government-convened all-party meeting held to discuss the tragic incident.
