LeT Terrorist Killed In Encounter In J&K's Bandipora, 2 Security Personnel Injured

An encounter broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district on Friday, injuring two security forces personnel in the gunfight. A terrorist associate Altaf Lalli was killed during the encounter.

A cordon and search operation was launched at Kulnar Bazipora in Bandipora following information about the presence of the ultras in the area. According to officials, an encounter started after the hiding ultras opened fire on the security forces.

The operation comes after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives and is said to be a part of a wider security crackdown to track down LeT terrorists suspected to be involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Srinagar today, where he was briefed on the ongoing operation in Bandipora. He is scheduled to conduct a security review of the situation. He is being briefed by the 15 Corps Commander on the security situation and actions being taken by the formations against terrorists inside own territory and attempts by Pakistan to violate the ceasefire along the LoC.

LeT Overground Workers' Module Busted In Bandipora, 4 Held

On Thursday, a module of overground workers (OGWs) linked to the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was dismantled in Bandipora. Four individuals were arrested, and a cache of arms and ammunition was also seized by the troops, news agency IANS reported.

In a statement, police confirmed receiving credible intelligence that OGWs affiliated with LeT were plotting attacks on security personnel and non-locals, under the direction of their handlers. Acting on the tip-off, Bandipora Police launched a coordinated operation, setting up special checkpoints across the district.

One such joint checkpoint was set up at Kanipora Naidkhai Sumbal by Bandipora Police in collaboration with D-Coy 45 Battalion CRPF and E-Coy of 13 Rashtriya Rifles. During the checking operation, two suspects identified as Mohammad Rafiq Khanday, a resident of Watalpira Banyari, and Mukhtar Ahmad Dar of Bunpora Mohalla S.K Bala were arrested.

An FIR under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) has been registered, and investigations are underway.

Another checkpoint was set up Sadunara Ajas by Bandipora Police along with F-Coy 3rd Battalion CRPF and 13 RR Ajas camp. Two more suspects named Rayees Ahmad Dar of Saderkoot Bala and Mohd Shafi Dar of Banyari were apprehended. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession, IANS reported.
