Youth Football Club gives call for sustainable practices
To celebrate World Earth Day, the Youth Football Club (YFC), Rurka Kalan, organised a community event at the Generation Amazing Community Club to raise awareness about the growing challenges posed by climate change. The event, themed, “Our Power, Our Planet,” drew over 200 participants, including students from government schools, environmental enthusiasts and members of the village panchayat.
Engineer Lupinder Kumar, a Soil Conservation Officer, was the keynote speaker and emphasised the urgency of adopting sustainable practices. Addressing the gathering, Kumar shared practical steps that individuals and communities can take to protect the environment.
He cautioned against the use of plastic bags, explaining how plastics can take hundreds of years to decompose, during which they release harmful gases and contribute to environmental pollution that affects both land and aquatic life. He encouraged the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth and paper bags.
Kumar also discussed the crucial role trees play in maintaining ecological balance and stressed upon the need to adopt renewable energy sources like solar power. He explained how conserving water is becoming increasingly important as climate patterns shift and water resources become strained.
