Protests held outside Pak High Commission
The BJP and Anti-Terror Action Forum (ATAF) on Thursday staged a protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in the national capital to express their anger against the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The security agencies, though, maintained their presence, but, removed the barricades from outside the Commission, a day after India downgraded the diplomatic ties with Pakistan.
Led by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, the protest saw participation from prominent figures, including former Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, former Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay and BJP state general secretary Vishnu Mittal. Hundreds of party workers raised slogans like “Down with Pakistan” and “We will not bow down to terror”.
Before the demonstration intensified, all participants observed a one-minute silence to pay homage to those killed in the Pahalgam attack.
Sachdeva warned of a stern response to Pakistan-backed terrorists.
“Those who ask caste and religion before killing innocent people will soon get a reply in their own language,” he said, adding, “What happened in Kashmir can happen in your home tomorrow if we don’t unite today.”
The protest turned tense when BJP workers attempted to break through police barricades. The Delhi Police briefly detained Sachdeva and several others at the Chanakyapuri Police Station before releasing them.
Sachdeva also criticised the Pakistan High Commission, accusing it of sheltering those who conspire against India.
