‘Man Mela’ to raise awareness on drug abuse in schools

The district administration on Thursday announced to organise “Man Mela” in schools as part of the War against drugs campaign. The administration will take help of a Ludhiana-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) to initiate awareness programmes on drugs and substance abuse. This is part of the Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to rid Punjab of drug abuse.

Assistant Commissioner Gursimran Kaur said with the efforts of DC Sakshi Sawhney, an NGO, ‘Initiative of Change’, from Ludhiana would support the administration on the subject. “We are holding ‘Man Melas’ in schools to apprise children of the ill-effects of drugs. The aim is to talk about the harmful effects of drugs since they are young, they must keep themselves informed on the issue.”

She said experts of this organization will go to schools and take the help of psychology experts to make the children aware of the ill-effects of drugs.
