Enrollment of children in primary schools is not increasing
Due to the age requirement of six years, the enrollment number of children in primary schools is not increasing. Teachers are searching for children from house to house in cities and rural areas to increase the enrollment number of children. Every day one or two children are returning from schools without admission. Parents are compelled to get these children admitted in private schools. Private schools easily take admission in nursery, LKG and UKG. Teachers say that if the age is not relaxed, then this time the number of students will decrease even more. Basic Education Director Pratap Singh Baghel, in an order issued to BSA on 28 March 2025, had given instructions to admit children who complete six years of age by 31 July in class one.
1618 primary schools running in Lucknow
1618 primary and upper primary schools are running in Lucknow. Many children are coming to the upper primary schools for admission in class 6. School-wise 20 to 50 children have been admitted, but on an average only 10 to 15 children have been admitted in class 1. In some schools this number is even less. The headmaster of a primary school located in zone two says that only 10 children have been admitted in class 1 so far. Eight children were two to three months short of completing six years of age. Therefore, these children have not been admitted. Bal Vatika classes are being conducted in Anganwadi centres opened in primary schools. In rural areas, many children of Anganwadi centres are not getting admission in class 1 because their age is two to three months less.
