Navi Mumbai News: Seawoods Sector 48 Day-Care Centre Remains Closed, Residents Demand Immediate Action From NMMC
Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai municipal corporation (NMMC) alleged failure to act is stated by residents to have left a fully constructed day-care center in Seawoods, Sector 48 , to remain unused. The defunct status of the facility has triggered public outrage, with citizens calling it a blatant waste of taxpayer money.
The matter was formally raised by the former corporator Vishal Dolas wherein the social welfare department was sought to commission the centre. He has also demanded immediate action against the officers and staff responsible for the delay. He has warned that if the center is not made operational within a week, citizens will be forced to protest and disrupt municipal proceedings.
The day-care center was sanctioned during the 2015 and 2016 general body meetings with the aim of providing an affordable, well-equipped facility for working families. Despite the building’s completion, the Social Development Department has failed to initiate operations, leaving it closed and neglected.
“This is nothing short of bureaucratic apathy,” Dolas said. “We’ve submitted complaints and held protests, yet the department continues to sit idle.”
Sources suggest that NMMC is now considering handing over the building to the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under the central government to be used as an anganwadi. Dolas, however, has strongly opposed the move, stating it violates the original decision made by the general body and would be illegal.
He has demanded that a public notice be issued within a week confirming the start of the day-care center’s operations, and that strict disciplinary action be taken against negligent officials. The issue has sparked widespread anger among local residents, who believe the facility could greatly benefit working parents if made functional.
