Show Of Unity At All-Party Meet, Oppn Calls Govt To Take 'Stern Action' Over Pahalgam Attack
In a rare show of unity, the opposition leaders extended their full support to the central government in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. During the all-party meeting in Parliament convened to discuss the situation, leaders from across the political parties condemned the brutal attack and called for strong retaliatory action.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that there should be no politics over terrorism and that they are with the government.
“We are with the government on this issue. There should be no politics over terrorism. This is a national issue and we stand united in the fight against it,” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated that the government had briefed the opposition in detail.
“Rajnath Singh ji gave us a full account of the incident. We all strongly condemned the attack and demanded strict action. On this matter, we are all with the government,” Kharge said.
AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi also underscored the seriousness of the situation and the government’s responsibility to protect the nation. Owaisi said that we support whatever steps the government finds necessary.
“It is the government’s duty to ensure national security. We support whatever steps the government finds necessary. Our Constitution empowers us to act in the nation’s interest, and we must act decisively,” he said.
The AIMIM chief further raised pointed questions, including the delay in providing help to the victims.
“Why did it take an hour to assist the injured?” he asked.
Owaisi also urged the government to consider imposing targeted sanctions on Pakistan, especially with respect to military cooperation.
He also called for a review of the Indus Waters Treaty, remarking, “If we decide to stop the water, we also need to plan where to store it. These are serious considerations we must make.”
Leaders present at the meeting emphasized that the issue at hand transcends political boundaries. They expressed support for any action the government deems necessary and committed to rising above personal interests to defend national unity and peace.
