Keyframes, AI mods, collabs: Meta promises to add more features to new Edits app
Edit app by Meta | Meta/Facebook
This week, Meta launched its very own video creation app ‘Edits’, which enables users to create videos directly on their phones. The app by the company that owns Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, has arrived amongst heavy competition in the short-form video space.
The launch of the app was announced back in January through an Instagram reel where Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram said, “There’s a lot going on in the world right now and no matter what happens, we think it’s our job to create the most compelling creative tools for those of you who make videos for not just Instagram but for platforms out there.”
Edits has positioned itself as a direct competition to CapCut, TikTok's sister app, owned by a China-based company ByteDance. CapCut, over the past couple of years, has gone viral for its ease of use, helping users create and edit videos on their phones or laptops.
Impressive features of Edits app
Streamlined workflow: Capture longer videos—up to 10 minutes longer—manage projects with ease, and maintain high-quality content for the whole time. You can share the content directly with Facebook and Instagram, or you can even export the content without watermarks.
Latest editing features: Edits promises a frame-accurate timeline and clip-level control while editing the video, and can even enhance the videos easily by using effects like green screen and cool transitions.
Insightful analytics: Get real-time feedback on important performance metrics such as skip rates, and the creators can see what is working and what is not. They can optimise the content accordingly for better results.
What is next for Edits?
Giving importance to feedback, Edits is currently in the works to add more features, including keyframes, modifications using AI filters, collaborations with other editors, and creativity features like fonts, voice effects, etc. All of this is believed to improve the quality of the content and the community.
