Earth Day Commemorated with Permanent Pictorial Cancellation Depicting the Great Indian Bustard at Nannaj Post Office
On the occasion of Earth Day, the Department of Posts, Maharashtra Circle, unveiled a Permanent Pictorial Cancellation for Nannaj Sub Post Office, depicting ‘The Great Indian Bustard’, an iconic and critically endangered bird species. This special philatelic initiative alongwith two postcards on the Great Indian Bustard, was unveiled by Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle.
Nannaj, located near the Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary, is a crucial habitat for this majestic bird, and the introduction of this pictorial cancellation at the local post office holds both symbolic and conservation significance.
The unveiling event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Kishor Chandak, eminent philatelist; Dabhade, Forest Officer, Nannaj; S.D. More, Senior Postmaster, Solapur HO; Ms. Rani Tonte, Sarpanch of Nannaj village; along with departmental staff, local residents, and wildlife enthusiasts.
Speaking on the occasion, Amitabh Singh emphasized the importance of Earth Day as a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve the planet’s rich biodiversity.
“The Great Indian Bustard, as an endangered species, serves as a symbol of our commitment to conservation. Through philately, the Department of Posts plays a vital role in raising awareness about crucial environmental issues, promoting cultural heritage, and nurturing environmental consciousness,” he said.
The Permanent Pictorial Cancellation features the Great Indian Bustard in its natural habitat and will be available at Nannaj Sub Post Office for collectors and conservationists. Such cancellations and philatelic releases serve as enduring tools to spread messages of sustainability, wildlife protection, and ecological awareness.
