Kesari Chapter 2 Director Praises Ananya Panday’s Impact In The Film: ‘Her Entry Got Applause In Theatres’

Kesari Chapter 2, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, has opened to critical acclaim and strong audience support. While the film’s powerful performances and gripping narrative have been widely applauded, Ananya Panday’s portrayal of Dilreet Gill has sparked mixed reactions. Many viewers were pleasantly surprised by her performance, but a section of the internet has criticised her acting and dialect in the film.

Kesari Chapter 2 director supports Ananya Panday

Addressing the backlash in an interview with News18, director Karan Singh Tyagi focused on the appreciation Ananya has received from theatre audiences. He shared, "The audiences have given her character so much love that I would like to look at the positive. I would like to look at the love that she’s getting.

"Two days ago, there was a screening in Hyderabad. Some people sent me videos from there. The audience was clapping at her entry scene. She was one female lawyer in a room filled with men. And that in itself is the perfect response to all the negative comments."

Tyagi also expressed concern over the toxic nature of online discourse today, adding, "That’s the age we’re living in. People jump to conclusions very easily. There are clickbait headlines written, but as they say, kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna (people love to talk). We just have to put our head down and work. I’m all for dissent and criticism because that gives you the opportunity to learn. But I see very unnecessary hate on social media today, which tends to become toxic certain times. It’s tragic! This is the ill-effect of social media and we’ve to learn to live it with."

On casting Ananya in the film

Reflecting on why he cast Ananya, Karan revealed it was her performance in Gehraiyaan that left a lasting impression on him. He explained that she underwent extensive preparation for Kesari Chapter 2, including over a year of dialect coaching and in-depth research on the mannerisms of female lawyers. "She also visited the Bombay High Court to observe a female lawyer in action," he added.
