Mumbai: In the wake of a deadly terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, the Maharashtra government has arranged two special flights to evacuate stranded tourists from the region. The attack, which took place on Tuesday, claimed at least 26 lives, including tourists, a senior intelligence officer, and six residents of Maharashtra who were on vacation with their families.
As fear and panic grip the valley, many tourists are scrambling to return to their home states. Responding to the situation, the Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office (CMO) announced on Wednesday that two flights, one operated by IndiGo and another by Air India, would bring back 183 tourists to Mumbai on Thursday. The Maharashtra government has pledged to bear the entire cost of these special flights.
The CMO released a statement in Marathi confirming the evacuation plan: “To bring back Maharashtra citizens from Kashmir, another special flight has been arranged. This Air India flight will carry 100 tourists from Maharashtra and will arrive in Mumbai today. The list of passengers on board is attached. Following instructions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, two special flights will land in Mumbai today. The IndiGo flight will carry 83 passengers, while the Air India flight will bring back 100. In total, 183 tourists from Maharashtra will return this evening. Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol has been assisting in this process. The Maharashtra government will bear the cost of these special flights.” The CMO also shared a list of the 100 passengers set to be onboard the Air India flight.
Civil Aviation Minister Murlidhar Mohol Shares List Of Passengers On IndiGo Flight
The Ministry of Civil Aviation, responding to the CM’s request, swiftly coordinated the evacuation on Wednesday. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol confirmed that the list of 83 passengers on the IndiGo flight had been shared and the Air India flight carrying 100 passengers would also depart as scheduled. The flights are expected to land in Mumbai by Thursday evening, providing relief to worried families awaiting their loved ones’ return.
Meanwhile, the security situation in Jammu & Kashmir remains tense following the attack. Authorities are investigating the perpetrators behind the incident, which has triggered strong reactions across the country. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has condemned the attack and assured full support to the families of the victims.
As a precaution, many tourists are cancelling their travel plans to Kashmir, while those still in the valley are making arrangements to leave at the earliest. The Maharashtra government has assured that it will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary measures to assist its citizens in need.
