MC demolishes unauthorised colony on Bohri Sahib road
The Municipal Town Planning (MTP) wing of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation demolished an illegal under-construction colony on Bohri Sahib Road in the city’s western zone here on Wednesday. In the second case, an FIR was registered against a builder for breaking the official seal of an unauthorised building.
Today, under the ongoing weekly anti-encroachment drive, MTP officials led a demolition operation in the Bohri Sahib Road area. The foundation and boundary walls of an illegal under-construction colony were razed using ditch machines. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Municipal Town Planner (MTP) Narinder Sharma, ATP Angad Singh, Building Inspector Navjot Kaur and supporting staff.
MC Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Aulakh stated that strict directives had already been issued to prevent illegal constructions across the city. He emphasized that no unauthorized development will be tolerated and such operations will continue across all zones — western, southern, and central — on a weekly basis. He urged residents to seek prior approvals from the municipal corporation before initiating any construction activity.
In another case, an FIR was registered at the B Division police station, Chatiwind Gate, against builder Shalinder Singh Shaily for breaking the seal of an unauthorised building located at Abadi Mahant Lachhman Das, Sultanwind Chowk. The structure had been sealed by the MTP Department on April 15. Despite this, the builder resumed finishing work in violation of official orders, prompting the municipal corporation to take legal action under the applicable IPC sections.
Moreover, the MC Commissioner has written to the police to ensure the deployment of a constable at the site to prevent further illegal activity. Letters have also been sent to the monitoring engineers of PSPCL and O&M Cell, instructing them to disconnect and deny electricity, water, and sewerage connections to the unauthorised structure.
The MC Commissioner issued a stern warning that any violation of the construction laws will result in FIRs and disconnection of utility services. He appealed to the public not to undertake any construction without the approved building plans.
