Giving special status to J&K led to separatism: Jai Ram

BJP leaders, including state co-incharge Sanjay Tandon and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, led a protest march here today against the brutal killing of tourists by terrorists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. They raised slogans against Pakistan and demanded justice for the innocent and unarmed tourists, who lost their lives.

Tandon paid heartfelt tributes to the slain tourists and pledged unity against terrorism. He said, “The attack on Hindus in Pahalgam is a direct assault on the unity and integrity of our nation. Its time for India to demonstrate to the world that we will not bow down to terrorism and will eliminate the enemies of the country.”

Jai Ram said that those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack would be brought to justice. He added, “Those who commit crimes against humanity will be destroyed. Granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir despite BR Ambedkar’s opposition, led to separatism. The imposition of Article 370 and Article 35A in Kashmir deprived the region of development and pushed it towards separatism.”

He said that the global community was aware of the forces that were aiding terrorism in India. He expressed confidence in the Indian Army and the national leadership and said, “The perpetrators of this crime against humanity will face a punishment that will be remembered for generations.”

Jai Ram said that some individuals are unhappy with peace being restored in Kashmir and the development of world-class infrastructure in the region. He added, “The media has shown the anger and hatred among the people of the Kashmir valley against the cowardly terrorist attack. This is a clear indication that the valley is moving towards peace, development and prosperity.”

Earlier, during the Ambedkar Samman programme, the district BJP organised an intellectual seminar at Dev Sadan. Tandon highlighted Ambedkar’s lifelong fight for equality, social justice and human rights. He said, “Ambedkar’s contribution as the architect of the Indian Constitution forms the foundation of Indian democracy and continues to inspire us all.”

The former Chief Minister criticised the Congress for not treating Ambedkar properly and accused it of adopting divisive policies. He said, “The Congress promoted religion-based reservation and consistently opposed measures like the Uniform Civil Code. These actions are contrary to Ambedkar’s vision of equality and unity.”
