Work on ground to resolve water, sewer issues, DC instructs officials

Rohtak Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata has directed officials to work on ground to resolve the issues pertaining to drinking water and sewerage in the city.

The Deputy Commissioner was addressing a meeting of Municipal Corporation, Public Health and Engineering Department, Irrigation Department and local municipal councillors on Tuesday.

Khadgata assured the councillors that the problems related to drinking water and sewerage in all 22 Wards of the city would be solved on priority. He directed both Joint Commissioners of the local Municipal Corporation, along with the Executive Engineer and SDO concerned, to inspect every street of the city on foot and collect the basic information about the problem related to sewerage and drinking water and then submit a report.

The Deputy Commissioner also ordered the creation of a WhatsApp group comprising the Joint Commissioners, Executive Engineer, SDO and all councillors of the Municipal Corporation for better coordination and communication. “In the group, the councillors will mention the problems related to their respective wards. The concerned officer will give his report on the WhatsApp group after solving the said problem,” he said.

Khadgata also maintained that a list of sanitation workers deployed in each ward along with their mobile numbers should also be put on the group so that the councillor concerned can have the details of the sanitation workers working in his/her ward.

The Deputy Commissioner asserted that a separate tender would be issued for cleaning the drains. He advised the municipal corporation officials to get micro STPs installed at strategic points for water utilisation. Khadgata asked the municipal corporation officials to take action against those dairies which had not yet shifted out of the city.

“The dairy-owners should be issued notices and eventually, the dairies should be sealed,” he stated. The councillors had complained that the problem of sewer blockage persists in many areas due to the cattle-dung waste discharged by the dairies. The Deputy Commissioner ordered the sewer-cleaning work done with the help of a super-sucker machine. He stated that he would visit the streets of some wards of the city and find out the problems related to drinking water and sewerage.

Rohtak Mayor Ram Avatar Valmiki, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dharmendra Singh, Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Namita, Joint Commissioner Bhupendra Singh and municipal councillors were present.
