Congress Corporator Group Demands Daily Potable Water Supply In Ujjain

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): The Congress corporator group in Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) submitted a memorandum to the commissioner on Wednesday demanding daily drinking water supply.

Leader of Opposition Ravi Rai said that water is being supplied in city every alternate day and there is drinking water crisis in the city. Even on the day when drinking water is supplied, it is dirty and smelly and comes at very low pressure.

There is fear that an epidemic will break out due to the poor quality of water. Due to water’s low pressure, drinking water is not reaching the upper reaches of the city. The PHE department also does not have sufficient tankers, and many of them are in rundown condition.

They alleged that most of the public handpumps and borings in the wards are also in bad condition and the department does not have any staff to repair them. They said three new borings should be made in each ward for supply of drinking water.

The number of new tankers should be increased. All non-functioning handpumps should be repaired.

The Group demanded that in the areas where borings are available, new motor pumps should be installed. The day water is supplied in the city, the tanks should be filled to capacity. The broken water pipelines in the wards should be repaired immediately. All deputy-commissioner level officers of PHE department should visit the ward areas daily during water supply.

Commissioner reviews arrangements

UMC commissioner Ashish Pathak reviewed the water supply system with additional commissioners Pawan Kumar Singh and Sandeep Shiva, deputy-commissioner Manoj Maurya as well as PHED officials in the meeting room of the UMC headquarters. He directed in the meeting that illegal tap connection from the main line should disconnect and FIR should be registered against the concerned. Also penalty should be imposed on their water tax.
