Delhi: Ensure verification before issuing EWS certificates, SDMs ordered

Amid rising complaints of irregularities in the issuance of EWS (Economically Weaker Section) certificates in the Capital, the Revenue Department has issued a stern directive to all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), urging them to ensure strict verification before approving such certificates.

In an official notice issued by the Office of the Divisional Commissioner, the department stated that complaints had been received about non-genuine and ineligible applicants receiving various types of certificates, particularly EWS certificates. The notice reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and irregularities in public service delivery.

“It is reiterated that there must be zero tolerance towards any kind of corruption or irregularity in the Public Service Delivery System,” the notice reads.

The government had earlier issued detailed instructions for the issuance of income and asset certificates to EWS applicants under Office Memorandum No. F.87(118)/CCS/HQ/EWS/Rev/2019/4517 dated June 4, 2019. The latest communication reminds all issuing authorities, primarily SDMs, to strictly adhere to these guidelines.

“Stringent scrutiny and careful verification of all relevant supporting documents must be carried out before approval of EWS certificates,” the notice says. It emphasises that the process must be handled with utmost sincerity, fairness, and due diligence.”

Officials have been cautioned that any lapse in this regard will be taken seriously and could result in disciplinary action. — TNS
