'People Didn't Understand My Intentions': Elvish Yadav Apologises To Chum Darang For Racist Comment After NCW Summons

Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner Elvish Yadav submitted a written apology to Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang after he was summoned by the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Tuesday, April 22. The YouTuber said that his intention was not to hurt anyone's sentiments and that he has nothing personal against Chum.

He appeared at the NCW office on Tuesday and apologised to Chum. Later, Elvish told ANI, "As we grow in life and our age increases, maturity comes, and those who were bothered by the 'Chum' part-there are many people who did not understand my intentions."

He went on to say, "I agree that if people are bothered by my statements, I must have said something wrong. In regard to this case, I went inside and apologised. I have nothing personal against anyone, nor do I hold grudges. I have submitted my apology to all the people I have hurt, especially Chum. I don't even know her personally. But my apologies to everyone who has been hurt by my remarks."

What did Elvish say?

It all began after Rajat Dalal appeared on Elvish's podcast post Bigg Boss 18, during which the latter allegedly made some derogatory remarks on Chum, mocking her name and ethnicity. His offensive comments also extended to her work in Gangubai Kathiawadi, where he made inappropriate jokes about her association with the film.

"Karan Veer ko pakka COVID tha kyunki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai! Aur Chum ke toh naam mein hi ashleelta hai… Naam Chum aur kaam Gangubai Kathiawadi mein kiya hai," Elvish had said.

Reacting to it, Chum had slammed Elvish for the comments. "Disrespecting someone’s identity and name is not 'fun.' Mocking someone’s achievements is not ‘banter.’ It’s time we draw the line. What’s even more disappointing is that this wasn’t just about my ethnicity - my hard work and a film backed by a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali were also disrespected," she stated.

Later, Elvish had said in his vlog that his statement was blown out of proportion.
