Hi, John! How are you? I am really happy to meet you finally! You know, I’ve looked through BetPokies website, and I was honestly impressed by the number of useful guides that you offer for gamblers. So I wanted to talk to you about the people who work on this all, your team. Since 2020, when you’ve just founded the website, it has grown rapidly, and now, as I know, you have three more editors who work with you. How and when did you decide that you need other people to work with you?

Hello, I couldn’t be better today. Thank you for having me here and for your kind words about the work of my life, BetPokies. You are right, I started this whole thing by myself, and at first, it was more of a hobby for me. I wrote my first review for a casino site when the lockdown started, and never expected it to find so many readers. So when it did, I took it as a sign that many people like what I do, and I decided to provide them with quality content. I do think myself to be an expert in gambling, and I think that I have enough knowledge when it comes to casinos, pokies machines or just general principles of gambling. Of course! I like talking about them, since all of them have contributed a lot to BetPokies, and I’m proud of these people and the work they do. Now, we have four editors in the team, including myself. Poppy Bate was one of the first to join me in 2021, and since then, we’ve been working together on many casino reviews and guides. She has great experience in the iGaming field, and it has always been a pleasure for me to work with her. Her opinion on many things related to gambling is the one that I 100% trust. We’ve had a lot of situations when her expertise and attention to detail have saved the day on numerous occasions, so she is truly an invaluable part of the team.

Also, we have Charles Morey. Actually, he is one of the smartest people I know. He has a degree in finance from the University of Melbourne, and I am honestly jealous of how many things about all banking and cash stuff he knows. Yet, when it comes to talking to him, it’s always easy and natural. I believe that he could explain the principles of the work of crypto to a child. That’s how wise and easy-going he is.

And Alicia, Alicia Want. She was the last of the editors to join the team, but I’m really grateful that we found her. Her articles about the latest news from the iGaming world are always a pleasure to read. I am her fan at this point, as she always finds the most interesting bits of news and delivers them in a way that makes it even more engaging. What are the biggest challenges you’ve had managing the team at BetPokies, and how have you overcome them?

Of course, you are right. As with any other team, we face some challenges. Thankfully, they are mostly minor, day-to-day issues. I honestly don’t think that I’m hard to work with. Yes, I am a perfectionist, and I do care about the quality of our product, but I also respect each of my workers and try to ensure that everyone feels respected and valuable. That said, most of the challenges we face come from the fact that my team shares my perfectionism. While this is a great thing for employees to have, sometimes, our vision of the “ideal” does not align. So we can argue for hours about the perfect structure and form of our reviews or other content. But at the end of the day, we always come to a compromise. 

I believe that these debates ultimately help you make the best content. And it’s really great that your team shares your dedication to perfection. I have one more question for you. I’m curious about the process of finding such talented individuals. How do you go about finding new team members for BetPokies? What qualities or skills do you prioritise when deciding who to hire?

The first and foremost thing is expertise. It is important to me that the people I work with know a lot and have gone through a lot, though I still expect people in my team to be ready to learn new things and adapt to my standards, which are actually quite high. I also appreciate creativity. All people who work for me always bring something new, whether these are some new trends in the industry that they’ve discovered or their ideas on how to improve and update our content.
