Chief Secy reviews preparations for Sindhu Darshan yatra in Ladakh
The Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Pawan Kotwal, chaired a meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Leh to review preparations for the upcoming 29th Sindhu Darshan yatra.
The meeting focused on key aspects such as venue setup, transportation, medical facilities, traffic management, power supply, availability of safe drinking water, hygiene and sanitation, security arrangements, seating, public address system and other related arrangements.
These discussions aimed to ensure a safe, smooth and enriching experience for all attendees.
Kotwal directed the construction of a permanent double-walled plastic insulated water tank of above 10,000 litres capacity with a pumping system underneath with a steel framework to ensure drinking water facilities to the tourists/pilgrims and instructed the Irrigation Department and MC to clean the water channel at Sindhu Ghat.
He also instructed the PWD to prepare the DPR for construction of an arched steel bridge to facilitate movement of devotees, tourists across the Sindhu Ghat point and to further enhance aesthetics of the ghat.
He emphasised that the construction of Buddha statue at Sindhu Ghat should be executed in consultation with religious organisations under the supervision of reputed statue makers, preferably local Ladakhi sculptors.
Underscoring the importance of the Sindhu Darshan yatra which annually draws hundreds of pilgrims and tourists, Kotwal acknowledged its significant contribution to Ladakh’s cultural and economic landscape. He directed all departments concerned to ensure seamless coordination and meticulous planning for the successful conduct of the event.
