Old Pension Scheme: In Moradabad, the Social Welfare Department has started verification of 52628 beneficiaries under the old age pension scheme. As per the order of the Chief Secretary, this process will be completed by May 25. New eligible persons will be included after removing the deceased and ineligible pensioners. BPL category elderly persons above 60 years of age will get Rs 1000 quarterly. Action will be taken on wrong verification.

Old Pension Scheme: National Old Age Pension Scheme is being run by the Social Welfare Department to provide a better life to the elderly. To ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach only the real and eligible beneficiaries, the work of verification of 52628 beneficiaries included in the list for pension payment in the new financial year 2025-26 has been started in Moradabad district.

Instructions have been issued to all Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates by the Government Order of the Chief Secretary. Under which verification of 52628 beneficiaries of old age pension will be done by May 25. Pensioners found dead and ineligible will be removed from the list and pension will be issued to new eligible beneficiaries in their place.

This is the eligibility for pension

The department provides quarterly pension of Rs 1000 per month to the elderly under the BPL income limit of 60 years or more through DBT. Under this, it is necessary to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. The annual income of the applicant from rural area should be less than Rs 46,080 and in urban area the annual income should be less than Rs 56,460.

In rural areas, verification is being done through BDO and in urban areas through SDM or Executive Officer nominated by the District Magistrate.

Penalty action on wrong verification

Director, Social Welfare has instructed all Divisional Deputy Directors and Social Welfare Officers to test the quality of verification by doing 10 percent cross verification. On the basis of which, punitive action will be taken by the District Magistrate against the verifying officer and employee who shows living pensioners as dead.

It will be ensured by the departmental officers that the verification is timely and quality. Families identified in Zero Poverty Abhiyan will get pension. Under the Zero Poverty Abhiyan, 25 families have been identified by the state government from every village, which are economically weak. The Social Welfare Department has started action to connect these families with the mainstream of society.

Older people of 60 years or more of the identified families will also be made to apply as per eligibility during verification and they will be given benefits. They will be given the first installment of pension from the month of June.
